Sanctuary of San Rocco in Butera
The Sanctuary of San Rocco in Butera is dedicated to the patron saint of the small village.
It was probably built during the 16th century by the will of the people and the Branciforte family, then princes of Butera and devoted to the saint.
It was born as a simple small chapel, but was progressively transformed into a single nave plan with the addition of the transept, the apse and the bell tower.
Inside the sanctuary is kept the imposing and valuable simulacrum of San Rocco with reliquary, around which popular piety and devotion are polarized.
