Altar of the god Cronos in Caltabellotta
The remains of the Greek sacrificial altar are located not far from the cathedral of Caltabellotta.
The altar was dedicated to the god Kronos who, according to the historian Diodorus of Sicily, was the king of Sicily, Libya and even Italy. He established his power over the western regions of Sicily, occupying all the most important hills of the region with garrisons.
The altar is in good condition and can still be seen on the sides of the channels. It is assumed that in the Greek and Roman period sacrifices, probably also human, still took place on this altar.
