Church of San Sebastiano in Cammarata
The Church of San Sebastiano in Cammarata is an ancient building of worship in the village.
The date of construction of the church is not known but it is believed to have been built at the end of the feudal period for the assemblies of the civic council: at the touch of its bell the assembly gathered there for deliberation. It was originally dedicated to the Madonna dell'Itria; the cult of San Sebastiano must have been introduced there towards the end of the 15th century.
During the restoration work carried out in 1985, the foundations of a previous building were brought to light: large boulders, roughly squared, placed in a transversal direction with respect to to the current structure.
The simple gabled façade, in stone, is enriched by a valuable portal.
The interior, with a single nave, houses valuable works: the statues of San Sebastiano and San Rocco and of the Madonna della Scalilla; the paintings of Purgatory, San Gregorio and the Madonna dell'Itria dating back to the 18th century.
