Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Castrofilippo
The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Castrofilippo is one of the buildings of worship in the village.
It was built in 1914 at the behest of Don Vincenzo Savatteri, former parish priest in the Chiesa Madrice. In memory of the commitment put into the construction of the church, the small square in front bears the name of Piazza Sacerdote Vincenzo Savatteri. The church has a very simple façade which culminates in the spire with a stylized projecting tympanum. It has an entrance door with relative frame that stands on the low base surmounted by a trio of single-lancet windows. The bell tower, located in the rear part of the building, is surmounted by the marble statue of the Heart of Jesus with its arms outstretched in the act of embracing.
The church, with a single nave, has a roof with a pitched roof.
It houses the statue of Santa Rita which is carried in procession on the liturgical anniversary. The church is a pilgrimage destination on the occasion of Holy Thursday.
