Cianciana is a small village located in the valley of the Platani river, surrounded by the Sicani mountains.
Its origins date back to Roman times when a villa of the imperial age stood in these lands. The current inhabited center was founded in 1646 by Baron Antonio Giuseppe Joppolo. In the 19th century, with the discovery of sulfur deposits, Cianciana experienced great development and from a village with an agricultural vocation it became the town of sulphurous gases.
