Calvary Church in Cianciana
The Church of the Calvary in Cianciana stands in a spectacular place from which you can enjoy a splendid panorama that embraces the village of Cianciana, the Monte Cavallo forest, the Platani Valley, the Sicani mountains, the sea of Eraclea Minoa and , on particularly clear days, the island of Pantelleria.
It is not known how long this place has been used to commemorate the crucifixion of Christ. The first documents attesting to the presence of a cross at the top of the mountain date back to the 18th century. It is certain that towards the middle of the 18th century a small church dedicated to San Gaetano was built here. The current structure was built in 1932, a small chapel made of stone ashlars, which stands at the top of the mountain, right under the cross.
