Maccalube in Cianciana
The maccalube of Cianciana are muddy springs with emissions of methane and carbon dioxide.
In the territory of Cianciana there are two maccalube known as Big Abyss and Small Abyss. In the past, gaseous emissions were of great importance and produced jets of water of considerable height, as described by the historian Tommaso Fazello. Today the phenomenon is of little relevance.
