Mother Church in Lucca Sicula
The mother church of Lucca Sicula, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, is the main building of worship in the village.
It was built in 1640, when the village of Lucca Sicula was built: the privilege of theius populandi imposed the obligation to equip the nascent town center with a religious building.
The simple gabled façade, in stone, has the bell tower on one side and a small tower on the other which houses the clock.
The interior, with a single nave, has four lateral niches with small altars dedicated to the souls of Purgatory, Sant'Antonio Abate, Sant'Aloi and San Francesco. It is decorated with stuccos dating back to the first half of the nineteenth century and has the main altar in neo-classical style.
The church houses a painting depicting the Madonna with Baby Jesus dating back to 1650.
