Church of Sant'Antonio Abate in Naro

The Church of Sant'Antonio Abate in Naro is an ancient place of worship, now reduced to a state of ruin. It stands near the ancient Cathedral and it too suffered extensive damage following the 1908 earthquake.
It was built in the 17th century, the period in which the Canons Regular of San Giorgio in Alga settled in Naro. It was subject to various renovations. It was closed for worship in 1929 following the extensive damage caused by the 1908 earthquake.
On the façade you can still admire the Baroque portal in white stone dating back to 1706.
The interior, with a single nave, had five altars and several valuable works of art, some of which are now kept in other churches.
In a room, behind the main altar, used as a drying room, an altar with traces of a valuable fresco was brought to light.
