Chiaramontano Castle in Palma di Montechiaro
The Chiaramontano Castle of Palma di Montechiaro is, among all the Chiaramontan castles in Sicily, the only one built on a rocky ridge overlooking the sea.
WAS built in 1353 and, due to its strategic position , played a role of great importance in the fight against Turkish pirates.
After the death of Andrea Chiaramonte and the confiscation of all his assets, the castle passed to the Moncada family who changed its name to Montechiaro. After several passages, the castle came to the Tomasi family in the seventeenth century, by female line. Abandoned to decay for a long time, it has only recently undergone restoration works.
Of considerable value is a statue of the Madonna that Caputo attributes to Antonello Gagini kept inside the chapel, to which a legend is also linked.
