Ravanusa is an ancient village located in the Agrigento hinterland, at the foot of Mount Saraceno, a place of important archaeological finds.
The history of these lands is very ancient and dates back to the proto-historic period as evidenced by the caves present in the area . The remains found in the area also reveal the existence of an important city from the Greek era, which is believed to be the ancient Kakiron, destroyed during the First Punic War. The current town was founded in the Norman period when Ruggero D'Altavilla conquered Agrigento and the surrounding area in 1086.
The long and rich history of this village still lives on today in its archaeological sites, in its museum and in its monuments.
