San Giovanni Gemini

State: AG - Area: Agrigento surroundings

San Giovanni Gemini is a village located in the enclave of Cammarata, occupying its central area.
San Giovanni Gemini has been linked to the nearby village of Cammarata since its origins: following a violent landslide that occurred around the hill of the castle of the Count of Cammarata, many inhabitants were forced to move to the plateau below, founding a new settlement, known today as San Giovanni Gemini.
The small village retains many features of its original appearance, low houses with small, winding streets, but is enriched by the presence of many Renaissance elements.
Its territory shows traces of ancient settlements: remains dating back to the Sicani people, the first inhabitants of Sicily, have been found in various archaeological sites in the area.
Its territory is also important from a naturalistic point of view: the Parco dei Monti Sicani preserves one of the most important wooded areas in the Agrigento area.
