Clock tower in Siculiana
The Clock Tower in Siculiana, located in the main square, is one of the symbols of the village.
Originally in this place stood the church of the Madonna del Rosario built in the 17th century thanks to the concession of Baron Blasco Isfar. After 1859 the building was abandoned and the Casa del Fascio with the Clock Tower was built in its place.
In 1887 a valuable mechanical clock by Vincenzo Scibetta da Bisacquino was placed on top of the tower. It is a very complex device based on the transformation of continuous motion obtained by exploiting the gravity imposed by the weights: the gear is moved by the weights, placed under the body of the watch via long metal cables. Each time the reload is performed, the weights are returned to their initial position.
