Byzantine tombs in the Valley of the Temples
The Byzantine tombs of Agrigento are located along the southern fortifications of the Greek age in the Valley of the Temples, precisely in the area between the temples of Giunone and Concordia.
These are arcosolium tombs carved into the rocky wall which served as a base of the walls.
The tombs consisted of a sarcophagus closed by marble slabs placed in the lower part of the niche. The upper lunette was generally decorated with paintings.
