Via dei Sepolcri in the Valley of the Temples
The Via dei Sepolcri of Agrigento is a path along which there are several burials that crosses the necropolis of the Valle dei Templi in an east-west direction. This route follows an old water supply channel from the Greek age which, once abandoned, became a road axis.
Along the Via dei Sepolcri there are both lithic sarcophagi and formae tombs, i.e. with trapezoidal boxes carved into the rock. Also visible are the remains of the furnaces of a ceramist's workshop dating back to the 11th century and the tombs transformed into clay settling tanks.
Funerary hypogea were also excavated in the southernmost area and are visible today in the garden of Villa Aurea.
