Village of Pozzillo
The Village of Pozzillo is located in the northern part of the municipality of Acireale. The seaside village, surrounded by gardens planted with citrus fruits, takes its name from the Sicilian puzziddu which means small point or small cape on the sea. The small port of the town still maintains its ancient charm intact.
In the town of Pozzilo there is a spring of alkaline mineral water, classified as sulphate-magnesian, also used by King Ferdinand I of Bulgaria during his stay in Sicily.
The beach of Pozzillo is characterized by a continuous alternation of small bays and small lava stone points among which the 'sea ox' dominates with its characteristic shape in the shape of a crouching dog.
Annually, in the last two weekends of July, the Festival of the Octopus and the Festival of the Swordfish are celebrated.
Two films were shot in this village, A beautiful November by Mauro Bolognini inspired by the novel of the same name by Ercole Patti, with the location of the Timpa and the ancient church, and The first night of Dr. Danieli, an industrialist, with the complex of. ... with a view of the Fontanelle bay.
