Village of Stazzo
Stazzo is a seaside village located in the municipality of Acireale, on the coast north of the municipal capital which is about 8 kilometers away.
The village develops on land originally occupied by the Aci forest and the presence of the village is attested starting from the 19th century.
The term Stazzo probably derives from the Latin statio, with reference to the place where the ships rested, or from the Sicilian stazzuni, which means furnace, i.e. the oven in which bricks are fired given that some of these now disused ovens are still present in the village.
The < strong>Stazzo beach is characterized by the black rocky cliffs, interspersed with numerous coves, of which the main one, around which the town was built, is precisely the Cala dello Stazzo. In the area known as the Cale district, territorially divided between Stazzo and the nearby village of Pozzillo, the cliff is characterized by numerous coves created by volcanic eruptions adjacent to each other.
