Church of San Martino in Acireale
The Church of San Martino in Acireale is an ancient building of worship in the city.
It was built in 1660 as a patronal church at the behest of Don Marc'Antonio De Maria, baron of San Martino, on his land located in a peripheral area of the city called Cerza.
The simple façade, surmounted by a triangular pediment, is punctuated by pilasters and flanked by a building containing the cell bell tower and clock. It has a lava stone portal surmounted by a rectangular opening.
The interior, with a single nave, houses several valuable works: the canvases of Giacinto Platania and Giovanni Lo Coco and the wooden statue of San Martino Vescovo.
