Pennisi College in Acireale
The Pennisi College in Acireale is one of the most prestigious places of historical interest in the whole of Sicily.
It was built in 1888 at the behest of Baron Agostino Pennisi of Floristella and the priest Giuseppe Carpinati, designed by the architect Sciuto Patti. The college, run by the Jesuit Fathers, had the aim of welcoming and training the best male youth from all over Sicily.
It houses nineteenth-century paintings, ancient photos, coats of arms and statues. Of particular value are the chapel and the monumental stairs.
The building today houses a modern state high school.
