Santonoceto College in Acireale
The Santonoceto College in Acireale is an imposing civil building in neoclassical style located along the main street of the city.
The college was founded in 1851 at the behest of Giovanni Santonoceto and his wife who decided to expand their residence. The purpose of the foundation was the instruction of the boardmaids in the domestic arts and crafts, in reading and writing, and in the first four arithmetic rules.
The building, large in size to the point of occupying a entire block, has a neoclassical style facade with a large solid wood door. Above the main door there is a balcony with a valuable wrought iron gate.
The building is now owned by IPAB, a public assistance and charity institution.
