Historical Uniform Exhibition in Acireale
The permanent exhibition of historical uniforms in Acireale is located in the Sala Costarelli of the Municipal Palace.
The exhibition collects the uniforms and uniform memorabilia that already belonged to the collection of the engineer Aldo Scaccianoce and represents an important visual testimony of the most important military events of the 19th century.
The collection ranges from relics of the battle of Lodi in 1796 to the uniform of Prince Umberto of Savoy in 1928, and collects testimonies from seven European States: France, Prussia, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Russia, the Papal State, the Kingdom of Sardinia, the Kingdom of Italy.
Among the most important relics historical value: the field marshal uniform of Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria; the general's uniform of Tsar Alexander III of Russia; the major's uniform of the eightieth infantry regiment that belonged to Prince Umberto of Savoy; the complete officer's uniform of the Regiment n. 27 of the period of the Directory of the French Republic of 1796; Napoleon I's Imperial Guard grenadier uniform dating back to 1808; the Austrian infantry uniforms and the officer's uniform of Napoleon III's Imperial Guard who faced each other in the Battle of Solferino in June 1859; the Prussian Hussar uniform of 1866; the general's uniform of the Kingdom of Italy.
