Church of Maria SS. of Carmelo in Belpasso
Church of Maria SS. del Carmelo in Belpasso, also known as the Church of Carmine, is a place of worship much loved by the local population given the profound devotion to the Madonna del Carmelo and the Virgin of Sorrows.
The original structure dates back to the first half of the 18th century and it is believed to be the private chapel of the Barons Bufali, ancient feudal lords of Belpasso. Subsequently, the Carmelite convent was annexed to the church, of which only a few traces remain today due to the continuous remodeling of the structure. The building was seriously damaged by the earthquake of 1818 and was rebuilt in 1853.
The simple façade has a single order surmounted by a belfry.
The interior, with a longitudinal development with a rectangular presbytery with apse, is enriched by stucco work created following the restoration which took place in 1920.
