Church of Sant'Antonio Abate in Belpasso
The Church of Sant'Antonio Abate in Belpasso is the oldest sacred building in the Etna village.
The original structure was built at the end of the fifteenth century but following the lava flow of 1669 which destroyed Malpasso, a new one was built church in Fenicia Moncada which welcomed the ancient Confraternity of the Madonna delle Grazie. When the population returned to inhabit the original site, the new Belpasso, the new church of S. Antonio Abate was built and, according to tradition, it was the first to be built in the new town.
The single-order façade , has a gabled roof with pediment and cuspidate bell tower.
It is believed that the stone portal comes from the ancient church of Maria SS. of the Graces of the old town.
