Church of Santa Maria Annunziata in Biancavilla
The Church of Santa Maria Annunziata in Biancavilla is located in the oldest historic district of the city after that of the mother church.
It was built in the early seventeenth century, and enlarged in the first half of the eighteenth century with the lengthening of the central nave and the construction of the transept and the side naves.
The Baroque style façade was built in 1907 when, based on a design by Carlo Sada, the current façade was attached to the ancient façade.
The interior, divided into three naves , was originally entirely frescoed. Today, following numerous alterations, the frescoes of the central vault, the transept, the presbytery and the side chapels remain.
Among the works kept inside the church, of particular value are: the precious eighteenth-century simulacrum of the Ecce Homo, who is carried in procession on the evening of the Tri Misteri, and several highly crafted seventeenth-century paintings.
