Church of Santa Maria dell'Idria in Biancavilla
The Church of Santa Maria dell'Idria in Biancavilla, also known as the Church of Odigitria, is a sacred building in Baroque style which stands in the historic center of the city.
It was built around 1640 as attested by the documents found in the historical archives .
The baroque style façade, pink in colour, culminates with the bell tower, incorporated into the structure, surmounted by the clock cell. The central portal and the window above are sculpted in lava stone. Today the window has a stained glass window representing a copy of the Trinity of Rublion.
Inside the church there are some valuable works: the canvas of the "Madonna dell'Odigitria" by Placido Rapisarda from 1884; the manuscript, study of this canvas, created by can. Antonio Petralia and preserved in the parish archive.
