Catoio in Bronte
The Catoio di Bronte is an underpass of Arab origin that led into a courtyard where there were several houses with families from the same farmhouse of origin, gathered to better defend themselves from the raids of bandits. In the catoio there is, carved into the wall, a votive shrine depicting the Virgin, it is assumed that it was the Madonna of Loreto considering the fact that the small street takes this name.
The characteristic Via Madonna di Loreto and the surrounding areas are home to the famous Bronte Pistachio Festival. Some walls of the place have also been decorated by local artists with paintings depicting different moments in the life of the Sicilian and depicting episodes as well as Sicilian, even the revolutionary uprisings of 1860.
