Giovanni Verga's House in Catania
Giovanni Verga's Birthplace in Catania is an apartment on the second floor of a nineteenth-century building where Verga spent his childhood, resided for long periods surrounded by family and closest friends and where the regional museum is now located. It was declared a national monument in 1940.
Inside are kept the furnishings and books that belonged to Giovanni Verga. To visit the immense collection of over 2600 volumes that were owned by Verga, the original reproductions of the writer's works, the photos of the time and the plates and films taken by Verga himself, who is what remains of his, little known, passion for photography. On the walls there are also numerous portraits, including the one made by Alessandro Abate for Verga and the marble and bronze plaque, made by Giovanni Nicolini, tributes to the writer for his eightieth birthday.
