Benedictine Monastery in Catania
The Benedictine Monastery in Catania, a jewel of the late Sicilian Baroque, is one of the largest Benedictine complexes in Europe. Monastery of San Nicolò l'Arena is now home to the Department of Humanities. The monastic building, which was born in the 16th century and has developed to the present day, houses a Roman domus, two cloisters and a splendid hanging garden. An example of architectural integration between the eras, today it is a Unesco world heritage site.
