Fish Market of Catania
The Fishmonger, "a Piscarìa", is the ancient fish market in the city of Catania and is included in the tourist route due to the folklore content that you breathe while passing through the fishmongers' stalls.
Only by trying this experience you can realize how picturesque this market can be: the market is always crowded and the incessant shouting of the sellers creates an Arab bazaar atmosphere. Vendors at dawn mount the fish stalls singing romantic songs and indoctrinate visitors with ancient proverbs.
The benches are located from the beginning of the nineteenth century in the tunnel dug in the sixteenth century under the Palazzo del Seminario dei Chierici and the walls of Charles V, in front of the Archi della Marina, once immersed in the waters of the fishing port below, now filled and transformed into a public park, in Piazza Alonzo di Benedetto and in Piazza Pardo.
