Madonna della Libertà Church in Giarre
The Church of the Madonna della Libertà in Giarre is an important example of an eighteenth-century Sicilian rural church. Unfortunately the church is in a very poor state of conservation.
It was built in 1782 and dedicated to the Madonna della Libertà due to an ancient legend.
The façade, which has been shored up for years, has a large central arch in which the entrance portal and the window above open up, framed by pairs of columns that support the string course frame. The bell tower rises on the second level.
The interior, divided into three naves, houses valuable works: the beautiful wooden statue of the Madonna della Libertà; the paintings of the Via Crucis; the canvas of San Giuseppe attributed to the school of Paolo Vasta; a valuable wooden crucifix.
