Church of San Matteo in Giarre
The Church of San Matteo a Giarre is the Mother Church of the hamlet of Tre Punti.
It was built in 1865, thanks to the generous contribution of the faithful, in the place where an older place of worship once stood.
The white stone façade, in neoclassical style, is of very fine workmanship. It is divided into three orders. On the first level there are three portals: the main one, larger in size, is surmounted by a slightly overhanging tympanum and flanked by two pairs of columns that support the string course frame; the two trabeated side portals are surmounted by oval windows. On the second level there is a trabeated window surmounted by the clock and flanked by two pairs of columns and two valuable volutes. On the third level rises the bell tower, surmounted by a tympanum, which presents very valuable decorations.
Inside the church there are some valuable paintings and furnishings from the small seventeenth-century church, also dedicated to San Matteo and known as Ancient church of San Matteo, located on the old consular road.
