Church of Saints Antonio and Vito in Linguaglossa
The Church of Saints Antonio and Vito in Linguaglossa is an ancient building of worship which houses a rich array of baroque stuccoes.
It was built at the beginning of the seventeenth century, next to an older building which was subsequently demolished.
The simple gabled façade is enriched by the frames of the entrance portal and the upper window, connected to each other, made of lava stone ashlars sculpted with floral motifs and baroque-style friezes, created in 1728 by the master carvers Diego Flavetta and Giambattista Marletta . On the right of the facade rises the bell tower, with a square plan and pyramidal roof.
The interior, with a single nave, punctuated by pilasters of the Corinthian order, is richly decorated with baroque stuccoes.
Among the works kept in the church , worthy of note are: the canvas of Saints Cosmas and Damian, a work by Giuseppe Minutoli from 1887; the canvas of the Nativity from 1877 and the Coronation of the Virgin from 1886, works by Salvatore Ferro; the 14 stations of the cross in chrome-plated terra cotta, the work of the sculptor Salvatore Incorpora.
