Maletto is the highest village on Etna, known as the city of strawberries, it is surrounded by terraces with vineyards and strawberry orchards, and by chestnut, pine and holm oak woods. Its history is very ancient: the Sicilians, the Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Arabs, the Normans, the Swabians and the Spaniards passed through these lands. The current town was founded in the time of the Swabians under the power of Manfredi Maletta, Count of Mineo, from which the village takes its name. From the end of the fourteenth century, Maletto was a large fiefdom under the power of the Spatafora family, and thanks to them it managed to maintain its autonomy from the nearby city of Bronte. The inhabited center develops around the ancient fortified tower dating back to the of Manfredi Maletta, the countryside that surrounds it offers the visitor the opportunity to discover ancient rural atmospheres and explore the Etna Park through its many paths.
