Mother Church in Maletto
The Mother Church of Maletto, dedicated to the Most Holy Heart of Jesus and Mary, is the main building of worship in the village.
The Mother Church was built in the 19th century at the behest of Monsignor Mariano Palermo.
The church it is placed at the top of a spectacular access staircase which gives monumentality to the building.
The façade, divided into three parts, is punctuated by lava stone parapets which creates a strong and characteristic chromatic contrast with the white plaster.
The external tripartition is repeated in the internal system. The three naves are separated by pillars decorated in stucco. On the sides there are neoclassical marble altars of particular artistic value.
Among the works kept inside the church, of particular value is the canvas depicting the Transit of Saint Joseph by the painter Marcello Leopardi, dating back to 1793, by a copy of which is preserved in the Minorite church in Catania.
