Church of San Nicolò in Misterbianco
The Church of San Nicolò di Misterbianco is one of the main places of worship in the city.
The church was the first to be built following the lava flow of Etna in 1669 which destroyed the ancient town.It was designed on the model of the ancient church completely submerged by lava. Initially the church was designed to be the Mother Church dedicated to the Madonna delle Grazie, but following a collapse around the middle of the 18th century, the appearance of the initial project changed and the definitive dedication was shared to the Madonna del Rosario and to San Nicolò.
Among the works kept in the church of particular interest are: the painting depicting San Pietro together with two other saints, San Lorenzo and San Placido; and the altarpiece depicting the Madonna del Rosario.
