Church of San Biagio in Pedara
The Church of San Biagio in Pedara is one of the buildings of worship in the Etna village.
It was built in 1630 at the behest of the inhabitants of the neighborhood, it was seriously damaged by the earthquake of 1693 and rebuilt immediately afterwards. At the end of the 19th century it was demolished and rebuilt from scratch.
The façade has a trabeated portal surmounted by a rectangular window. On the sides two pairs of parastras with Ionic capitals support an entablature and a slightly overhanging tympanum.
The interior is decorated with stucco and gilding by the sculptor Vincenzo Torre in 1922.
Inside the church there are some paintings and the artistic simulacrum of San Biagio created by the Messina sculptor Antonino Saccà in 1899.
