Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Pedara
The Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Pedara is a building of worship in the Etna village.
It is known that in another place there was a church dedicated to the Madonna delle Grazie built in the 17th century. However, the building was destroyed by the terrible earthquake in the Val di Noto in 1693. The current building was built starting in 1819 and opened for worship in 1827.
The simple gabled façade is flanked by a bell aedicule with two arches . The main portal, made of lava stone ashlars, is surmounted by a broken tympanum and a small rose window, also made of lava stone. In correspondence with the bell aedicule there is a smaller portal that leads to the sacristy.
The interior, with a quadrangular hall and rectangular presbytery, houses various works among which the painting depicting the Holy Family by Vito D'Anna stands out.
