Papardo-Corvaja Palace in Pedara
Palazzo Papardo-Corvaja in Pedara is a fine example of an eighteenth-century Sicilian courtyard building.
The building has a typical U plan, and incorporates a large courtyard in which there is a ancient cistern surmounted by a wrought iron cross.
The façade is characterized by the presence of lava stone elements which embellish many of the openings. The main entrance portal is of particular artistic value. Located above a large scissor staircase, dating back to the late nineteenth century, it is striking for its monumentality. It is characterized by the alternation of lava stone ashlars and white stone ashlars, sculpted with anthropomorphic figures, which give great chromatic contrast and which close at the top with a valuable anthropomorphic key. Above the portal is the coat of arms of the Papardo family.
