Don Diego square in Pedara
Piazza Don Diego Pappalardo in Pedara is the fulcrum of the city life of the village and witnessed its rebirth after the terrible earthquake in the Val di Noto in 1693.
The current appearance is due to the renovations carried out in the nineteenth century . It was named in 1974 after Don Diego Pappalardo, a great benefactor of the city. Previously it was known as Piano Matrice and later as Piazza Umberto I.
Today in the center of the square there is the Monument to the Fallen in War depicting the Fatherland-Glory supporting the dying hero. The work was created in 1925 by Vincenzo Torre in honor of the fallen of the First World War.
