War memorial in Piedimonte Etneo
The War Memorial in Piedimonte Etneo is among the most majestic among those present on the eastern side of Etna.
It stands in the square of the Mother Church in the place where the monumental pupo fountain removed following the renovation of the square in 1920.
The monument portrays a lion, symbol of the fortress of the homeland, and the angel of resignation, at the pinnacle of sculpture.
The plaque bears the following words:For the greatness for the unity of the homeland heroes are immortalized in the holy name of Italy through brute force. For them the ideal of justice triumphed which in eternal life radiates new horizons of faith. Piedimonte watched over by Etna, proud and proud of its children in perennial memory of glory., followed by the name of the Fallen.
