Mother Church in Ragalna
The Mother Church of Ragalna, dedicated to Maria Ss. del Carmelo, is the main religious building of the Etna village.
It was built in the nineteenth century as a rural religious building.
The building is accessed via a lava stone staircase. The façade, characterized by simple decorations in white stone and lava stone, is flanked by a square bell tower in neo-Gothic style decorated with round lancet windows.
The interior of the building, with a single nave, still retains today most of the original furnishings.
Among the works kept inside the church, of particular interest are: the statues of San Francesco da Paola and the Madonna of Lourdes; the high altar in finely worked marble; the canvas depicting the Madonna del Carmelo appearing to a friar; the wooden fercolo on which the effigy of the Patron Saint is carved.
