Calvary in San Pietro Clarenza
The Calvary at San Pietro Clarenza is the place where the beautiful Mother Church of San Pietro Clarenza once stood, destroyed by the lava flow of the eruption of 1669. In this same place a small altar was then built consisting of three niches in which there was a crucifix of fine workmanship, the image of the Madonna and that of Saint Joseph. In 1964, the ancient altar, in a terrible state of conservation, was replaced by a bronze crucifix, the work of Tacco, and subsequently, two terracotta statues were placed, the work of Professor La Licata, depicting the Addolorata and Saint John Evangelist.
Calvary is the destination of the Good Friday Procession.
