Mannino block in San Pietro Clarenza
The Caseggiato Mannino in San Pietro Clarenza is the oldest building in the village.
The date of construction of the building is not known but it is believed that it was owned by the Clarenza family: in a document from 1816 it appears that the heirs of Prince Giuseppe Clarenza were holders of an annual income relating to some premises located in the block of flats in the central square, which is believed to be identifiable with the Mannino block. The building was later purchased by the Mannino family, a noble family of landowners from Catania. A certain Knight Antonio Mannino lived here, who became mayor in the 1950s, until his nieces claimed ownership of the property which actually belonged to the Knight's brother, who at that point had given him permission to stay there. It is said that, during the Knight's stay in the building, he allowed a duel to take place in the majestic halls of his residence. The cause of the duel is unfortunately unknown, it is known that one of the godfathers was the lawyer Panzera, now deceased for some time.
The façade of the building has a base made of lava stone ashlars, and the corner and the portals also 'they are covered in lava stone.
The building is made up of fourteen rooms, a large hall and an internal courtyard where there is an ancient cistern.
The municipal library is located inside the building. p>
