Church of Santa Caterina in San Pietro Clarenza
The Church of Santa Caterina in San Pietro Clarenza, dedicated to the Patron Saint, is the main place of worship in the village.
It was built between the end of the 17th and the middle of the 18th century, following the eruption of Etna in 1669 which razed the farmhouse of San Pietro Clarenza to the ground.
The Church, made entirely of lava stone, has a gabled façade covered with light plaster. On the facade, delimited laterally by two parastras, the high reliefs that enrich the central part stand out, between the rectangular portal in carved stone and the rectangular window in line with the central axis of the portal. At the sides of the portal, at the top, are the two statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. To the left of the building stands the square-shaped bell tower with a cone-shaped terminal element with reliefs of Doric columns.
The interior, with a single nave, has four lateral altars.
