Church of Santa Maria del Lume in Santa Venerina
The church of Maria Santissima del Lume is the mother church of Linera, a hamlet of Santa Venerina.
It was built in 1889 although the first parish established in Linera was founded in 1818 and had the current church as its parish church of Mary Most Holy Immaculate, known as old church , located in a decentralized position with respect to the town. Following the earthquake of 1879 it was decided to build a new church in a central position with respect to the town. Thus it was that the new church of Maria Santissima del Lume was built in 1889.
The salient façade presents in the central body a large portal surmounted by a round arch, a rose window, and a bell tower with three lights. In the two lateral bodies there are two portals surmounted by round arches and two niches.
The interior with three naves houses the simulacrum of the Madonna del Lume, patron saint of Linera.
