Church of San Mauro Abate in Santa Venerina
Church of San Mauro Abate in Santa Venerina is the place of worship in the village of Monacella.
It was built in 1792, subsequently falling into a state of complete disrepair, reduced to a warehouse for agricultural vehicles. It was subjected to important restorations and reopened in 1850, it was further enlarged in 1880.
The façade, characterized by the two-tone between the red of the stone and the gray of the plaster, is divided into two orders by a stringcourse frame and is divided into three parts by two pairs of pilasters that separate the slightly overhanging central body from the two lateral bodies. At the first order three portals open; the central one, larger in size, is surmounted by a circular opening. On the second level there is the church clock surmounted by a bell tower.
