Mother Church in Tremestieri Etneo
The Mother Church of Tremestieri Etneo, dedicated to the Madonna della Pace, stands on a small hill from which you can enjoy a splendid panorama of Etna and the Catania Plain.
The date of construction of the church is not known original building but it is believed that its construction may date back to the period of Norman domination, as evidenced by a small bell placed in the bell tower which bears the date 1196 engraved. The current building was built following the earthquake of 1693 which destroyed the previous structure.
Inside the church there are some paintings by local artists dating back to the period between the 16th and 17th centuries, a valuable 19th century organ, and two artistic wooden statues representing the Madonna della Pace and S. Barbara dating back to the 17th century.
