Church of Sant'Antonio da Padova in Tremestieri Etneo
The Church of Sant'Antonio da Padova in Tremestieri Etneo, also known as the Church of Sant'Antonino, gave its name to the ancient surrounding neighborhood.
It was probably built in the 16th century although the first documents in which it is mentioned date back to the second half of the following century. It was one of the buildings to suffer the least damage following the earthquake of 1693 and therefore assumed the function of Mother Church in the years following the earthquake.
The simple gabled façade, flanked by a small bell tower, is embellished with a valuable baroque portal in lava stone on whose frieze there are floral decorations and in the protruding parts faces of winged cherubs.
