Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Viagrande
The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Viagrande is one of the sacred buildings of the village.
The original building, dedicated to Sant'Antonio Abate, was destroyed by the earthquake of 1693. The construction of today's building dates back to the end of the 18th century. In 1950 the church was dedicated to the Madonna of Lourdes.
The simple gabled facade, characterized by the presence of a lava stone base which contrasts with the white stone used in the rest of the facade, is closed by two pilasters with Corinthian capitals which they support the architrave and a slightly overhanging gable. There is a single portal flanked by pilasters that support the architrave and a segmental arched frontispiece. The portal is surmounted by a glass rose window which shows the statue of the Madonna of Lourdes, located inside the church.
The interior, with a nave with an apse basin, is covered with a barrel vault with lunettes.
