Church of San Biagio in Viagrande
The Church of San Biagio in Viagrande is located in the Viscalori district.
The date of construction of the church is not known but its origins date back to the 16th century. It is believed that the earthquake of 1693 seriously affected the building and that it was first restored and then, at the end of the eighteenth century, definitively demolished to make room for a new construction.
The current building stands on a large staircase which gives it great monumentality.
The façade is divided into two different levels: in the centre, in a projecting position, four pilasters support an architrave which ends with a pediment and tympanum without decorations; in the two lateral bands, on each side, there is a rectangular niche, a semicircular frontispiece, a decorated ring motif and, in the upper part, a catenary decorative motif and a clock. In the center there is a walled circular single-lancet window and a marble plaque, surmounted by the belfry consisting of three single-lancet windows.
The interior has an ovoid plan with an apsidal presbytery.
